Bookshelf Revamp

As you all know, I have been into refinishing wood and wicker furniture. Over the weekend, I was able to go over to my friend's house and show her how easy it is to refinish wood furniture. Her bookshelf was in good condition, but it had nicks and stains - all it needed was a little sanding and painting!
The colors of her apartment are tan, red, and green. Very natural and neutral. This red bookshelf really pops and it is a wonderful example of what you can do to your existing furniture to give it a new look!

After we were done, we headed back into her apartment and I could see her imagining other pieces in her place being refinished. I am so excited to see what she wants to revamp next!!

The view while painting. It was a beautiful day!
This is the red we used. For the green, we used Ultra Cover Spray Paint from Rust-Oleum in Sage in a Satin Finish.

Happy painting!

Matte nail polish? How cool!!

Just read this article by The Beauty Department. I am such a huge fan of these girls!
They are so fun! I love their new matte nails mixed with the shiny!
This photo is from their website:

I believe they used O.P.I.'s Black Onyx and  Butter London's Matte polish.
I adore this new look! So fresh!!

This polish is too expensive! It's $18+Shipping from Zappos!
I don't like promoting something I would not buy, so I am going to grab this for $10 instead:

I hope you are all having a wonderful summer!
What is your new favorite nail look right now? Let me know below!

Jelly at the grocery

I was trying to buy jelly. But, I noticed different options: jelly, jam, preserves, and spreads. I know that Jelly, Jam, and Preserves are all made from fruit mixed with sugar and pectin. What are the differences?

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration definition:
The difference is in the form of the fruit when the process begins

Jelly is made from fruit juice.
Jams are made from pureed fruit, pulp or crushed fruit.
Preserves are made from whole fruit.
Spreads are made from whole fruit and/or pureed fruit.

So, now you know the differences between jelly, jam, preserves and spreads. If you don't like chunks, go for a jelly. If you do, grab a jar of preserves. Either way, I'm ready for a PB&J!

Dangerous levels of lead in handbags!

Attn: Vegans!! The plastic/faux leather handbags sold in lots of major retailers may contain lead! I never thought that the handbag and wallet I use have the possibility to harm me. Until the Center for Environmental Health came out with THIS REPORT. It is a report that states how we should keep these handbags away from small children and ourselves due to the high levels of lead in handbags. Scientists discovered the bags with the highest levels of lead were ones that were yellow and red - leaving them to believe the lead is coming from the coloring in the plastic and vinyl material used.

Then, I also found THIS video about how the Cosmetic Industry has no checks and balances when it comes to the chemicals they use in products. They found lead in lipsticks, too! We all know how little ones will find our lipstick and start putting it all over their little faces and bodies. To think my lipstick is just a tube of colored lead and toxins is scary! It's more than scary, it's terrifying! I thought the FDA controlled chemicals in cosmetics, but they don't!

This is very alarming, but we need to be aware of what toxins we are bringing home with us. We know what is harmful and what causes cancer, but without anyone regulating the marketplace, we have no way of knowing if what we purchase and bring home is safe or if it has lead and other toxins.

After reading these, I realize this has been an issue since 2009 and in 2010, Major retailers agreed to limit lead in handbags. But this issue it is BACK AGAIN with handbags from Tory Burch, House of Harlow, Guess, Nine West and even Charlotte Russe!

April Art, Batman Is Real, and I found an Easter Egg filled with LA Street Art at the Art Lab

That's right! I have been painting a lot and I found out about a man who dresses up as Batman and visits children in the hospital. He is a very wealthy man who spends his time as a volunteer. How wonderful!! Then, I went to LA Art Lab's Red Bull Curates event last night and did not make it in! But, I found an Easter Egg with stickers, confetti, and gum! Horray!

Two Point Oh! Pre-Los Angeles Fashion Week Party 2012 (Part 1)

The Two Point Oh! Pre-Los Angeles Fashion Week Party 2012 was held at the Cement Studio in Los Angeles. It was a beautiful night! Beautiful people, great vibes, and amazing bloggers! I have so many fantastic photos that we have to make it two posts! This is Part 1:

The treat table

View from Cement Studio

Eleven floors up and a window at the party is wide open without a screen. I can touch the cement art on the outside of the building! It was nice to have fresh air, though. It got hot in there!

Gina McFinch - A beautiful pin-up punk style blogger. I seriously ADORE her style.

Chilling out for a minute with a beverage from Hard Luck.

Love AKeeneSenseOfStyle's bright red lips against her jet black hair! The color combo is perfect!

I had so much fun at Two Point Oh!'s Pre-Los Angeles Fashion Week Party 2012

No jean pants = corduroy pants are OK!

No Jeans February Continues!!

I am having so much fun with this challenge! Not wearing jeans for February has been so challenging! It was very cold and I could not wear a dress. So, I wore my OBEY pea coat, a white lace tank and a yellow tank, Joe'sJeans corduroy pants, yellow bead bracelets, Target beaded necklace, and brown polka-dot Anchor Blue wedges.

Start your own outfit challenge! Try it for a month! It is so fun!!
